UPDATE! Report coming from China reveals another iPhone explosion
The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus are both selling like hot cakes, and statistics show that they’re actually helping iOS get closer to Android in the largest markets across the world, but here’s something that could make some people think twice before purchasing an Apple product.

A report coming from China claims that an iPhone 7 Plus exploded in the Yunnan province (Southwest China) after accidentally hitting the ground.

Citing Chinese media, GizmoChina writes that the phone was purchased last month and was in perfect condition before it was accidentally dropped to the ground. The phone then started vibrating continuously before it eventually started emitting smoke, which is believed to have led to a small internal explosion that ultimately detached the display from the body and wrecked it completely.

As you can see in the photos that are attached to the article and which show the outcome of the alleged explosion, the iPhone 7 Plus became completely unusable, but it’s not exactly clear what caused the display to jump off the phone.

Explosion or physical damage?

At first glance, the battery is the most logical part that could have caused the explosion, but the back of the phone barely seems to be impacted, and there’s no sign of a fire, but rather of a severe drop.

A photo that also surfaced in the Chinese press and which you can see at the end of the article shows the internals of the iPhone 7 Plus, and it appears that a small fire managed to melt the plastic inside, but details are very sketchy at the moment, and everything should be taken with a pinch of salt.

As usual, Apple hasn’t issued a comment on this alleged explosion, but the company is most likely looking into it. And yet, there’s no reason to freak out right now because this explosion, if it really happened, took place after the phone hit the ground, so the cause seems to be different from the one impacting the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 when devices burst into flames during charging.

This is, however, another report of an iPhone that more or less catches fire, with other cases making the rounds as well in the last few weeks, including one where an owner got his car burned down after he left his iPhone charging on the front seat.
