Apple introduced the iPhone 7 in September, and it turns out that the device had an immediate impact on company sales, as it managed not only to boost the market share of iOS and bring it closer to Android, but also to help Cupertino benefit from the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
Figures provided by Kantar reveal that both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus managed to win the United States, as they became the best-selling smartphones in September, accounting for 17.1 percent of total sales in the country during the month. Furthermore, the iPhone 6s was the runner-up in this chart, with all iPhone models contributing to a growth of iOS to 34.2 percent in the third quarter of 2016.
The same thing happened in the United Kingdom, where Apple managed to make the iPhone 7 the top selling device in the region with 15.1 percent of all sales.
Android still number one in all big markets
Specifically, iOS is currently at 40.6 percent sales share in the United Kingdom, up 2.4 percent year-over-year, but Android improved here as well, reaching 55.7 percent, up 4.1 percent from 2015.
The difference between the two is still huge in the EU5 region where Android leads the pack with 76.9 percent share, up 5.1 percent year-over-year, while iOS is the runner-up with just 18.9 percent.
Android is number one in the United States as well, but iOS is doing a lot better here as compared to other markets. Android has a share of 63.4 percent (down 3.3 percent), while iOS is second with 34.2 percent, so it’s very clear that the launch of iPhone 7 helped a lot.
Apple is expected to continue the growth in the coming months, especially because the iPhone 7 is now becoming available in more markets, while Samsung, which remains the top Android company, is still struggling to deal with the Note 7 fiasco in all big markets.
