It's pretty clear that Sony won't drop its smartphone business even though it's been bleeding money since forever. With that in mind, it's no surprise that the Japanese company plans to launch a new flagship smartphone next year.
Rumors about two unannounced Sony smartphones leaked last week, though besides their model numbers, G3112 and G3121, nothing else emerged about their specs.
Today, a new report coming directly from China claims the two smartphones will be unveiled in early 2017 at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) trade fair. Aside from that, we've also learned that one of the devices will sport a 5.0-inch or 5.2-inch display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.
The other handset will boast a much larger 5.5-inch display that supports 4K resolution, which isn't unusual for Sony as the company has already released such a phone on the market, the Xperia Z5 Premium.
Another piece of information revealed by the leaker is the fact that both Sony G3112 and G3121 will come equipped with 4GB of RAM. This is all the information that we've been able to learn about Sony's upcoming smartphones, though we're pretty sure that more details will emerge in the coming months.
A 4K display is a bit of an overkill for a smartphone
As many of you have probably noticed, there's nothing out of the ordinary about the two smartphones Sony plans to unveil in January. However, there's a lot of information that we still don't know about them, so we won't be making any assumptions.
It's worth noting though that a 4K display requires quite a lot of energy every time it's being used. The Xperia Z5 Premium did not use this resolution all the time, as Sony had to tone it down for some tasks, so the phone could offer a decent battery life.
Hopefully, Sony won't make the same mistake and add a 4K display without a fairly sizable battery inside that should provide enough juice to get you throughout the day.
