Despite repeated warnings to return their Galaxy Note 7 units, many loyal customers have decided to take their changes with the exploding phone and keep using it. Not even Samsung's software update that limits the battery charge to 60% convinced some Note 7 owners to go ahead and return their phones as soon as possible.
After selling 3 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones worldwide, Samsung decided to discontinue the phone and stop production of its flagship permanently. The decision is the direct result of two recalls and Samsung's inability to find the reason the Galaxy Note 7 is affected by these major issues.
Unfortunately, many Note 7 owners did not understand that they really don't have a choice and they will eventually be forced to return their phones at some point. So, why not do it now when Samsung still offers good incentives to those who return their Galaxy Note 7 phones?
Since quite a lot of exploding phones are still in the hands of customers, Samsung announced that effective November 18, those using the Galaxy Note 7 will no longer be able to connect to any mobile network services to make calls, use data or send SMS messages. These drastic measures were taken in New Zealand, a country where it looks like there are still many people using the Galaxy Note 7.
“We strongly urge any customers still using their Note7 to return their device to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. Between November 4th - 18th, we will contact our customers on at least two separate occasions with information about this network discontinuation event to ensure they have received adequate notice,” read Samsung's announcement.
It's unclear whether or not these measures will be introduced in other countries as well, but a Samsung spokesperson told Gizmodothat the company is “considering many options to ensure that all remaining Note 7 devices” are returned as soon as possible.
