Solitaire is without a doubt one of the most popular games in history and it’s all because older versions of Windows launched with it built-in.
Starting with Windows 8, however, Solitaire was no longer pre-installed in the operating system, and Microsoft instead switched focus to a modern version called Solitaire Collection that also featured additional games and features, such as Xbox Live support and achievements.And today, Microsoft officially launches Solitaire on a non-Windows platform for the very first time in history, as it’s looking to give more users the chance to play it wherever they are.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection is now available for download on Android and iOS, and it comes with the same feature package as on Windows. You can play the typical games, including Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid, and Klondike, but also get achievements, daily challenges, and so much more.
Premium Edition offered for free
There’s also Xbox Live support should you want to log in and compete with friends, as well as a Premium edition that removes the ads and offers you a totally clean experience. Users who install the game these days receive one month of Premium Edition for free.
“Congratulations on being one of the first to play Microsoft Solitaire Collection for Android/iOS!” the message displayed at first run reads. “To celebrate this event, we’re giving you 1 month of Premium Edition for free.”
The offer ends December 31, 2016, so you have more than a month to install the game and see if the Premium edition is what you need or not. If you want to enjoy all the benefits of a Premium user without a time limit, you need to pay a $1.99 fee per month.
Microsoft says that Solitaire currently has 119 million players on Windows 8 and Windows 10, and the number will undoubtedly grow substantially now that it’s available on Android and iOS. Check out the photo gallery below to see the game in action on an iPhone 7.
